Printable sudoku
Five difficulties on the same grader the game uses, laid out for A4. Pick a sheet, print it, done.
What you get
Choose a difficulty and how many puzzles fit on a page. The sheet is built in your browser the moment you ask for it — there is no PDF sitting on a server, and no "download" button that emails you a file. Press Print and the browser's own dialog takes over.
The grid is measured in millimetres, not pixels, so a board printed at 100% comes out the same size on any printer. One board per page fills 140 mm; four per page gives you 84 mm boards, which is the size a classroom handout usually wants.
The difficulty is the same one the game uses
Most printable sudoku sites decide difficulty by how many clues are left on the board. That number is easy to count and a poor guide: a 30-clue board can fall apart to singles while a 34-clue board needs an X-Wing.
This generator runs the same technique grader as the game on this site. Easy sheets can be finished with naked and hidden singles alone. Medium adds pairs, triples and box-line work. Hard needs fish techniques. Expert needs wings. Master is the level where the guide's later chapters stop being optional. If a sheet feels wrong for its label, that is a bug worth telling us about.
One, two or four per page
- One — the board fills most of the page. Best for anyone who writes large, or for a single puzzle to work on away from a screen.
- Two — two boards with room for pencil marks between them. This is the one to print for a train ride.
- Four — a quarter-page each, numbered, with a sheet header. Made for handing out.
Candidate marks
Tick the box and every empty cell carries its possible digits in a faint 3×3 grid — the pencil marks the technique guide spends a whole article teaching. It turns a blank board into one you can reason about immediately, which is what a beginner needs. At four per page the marks are around 5 pt; readable, but one or two per page is kinder.
Print settings that matter
- Scale: 100% (some browsers say "Actual size"). "Fit to page" shrinks the grid and thins the box lines.
- Paper: A4 or Letter, both fit.
- Margins: default. The sheet already leaves 12 mm on each side.
- Turn off the browser's own header and footer if you want a clean page — the sheet prints its own footer with the site address.
Answers
Tick "Add an answer page" and the solutions print as separate sheets at the end, in the same order as the puzzles. Print one copy for yourself and hand out the puzzle sheets; the numbering matches.
If you print for a class every week, the layout settings live in the address bar — bookmark the page after choosing a difficulty and a number per page, and it will open with those already set. The puzzles themselves are new each time; if you need the same set twice, print two copies now.
